A grant proposal was sent in to Green Works for $$ to help fund a project to teach others about the threat of the invasive species that are destroying maple and ash trees-- the Asian Longhorned Beetle and the Emerald Ash Borer.

This fall the Alliance for Climate Education (ACE) had another Leadership training in Boston. Four of our 8th grade ambassadors attended. They spent the day learning how to plan effective projects and keep them to the completion  date. They also spent time learning about what other schools have been doing. We are proud to say we were the only middle school there (The rest being high schools).

In January 2011, the Green Rivers team went to a workshop in Mystic Aquarium. There they learned about how they can help our school to be more green and how to educate others. ACE also did a presentation at Mystic and also to the 6th graders at our school.

On May 21st, four of our seventh graders visited MIT in Cambridge, MA. They learned about organic gardening and climate change from ACE.

Also on May 21st was the Health in Action Fair held at Two Rivers. It went from 10 am to 2 pm and the Green Rivers team decided to make organic smoothies to show that organic can also be tasty! Many other presenters were there such as The American Cancer Society, American Lung Association, Whole Foods, and the East Hartford Fire and Police Department. There were many healthy snacks there and tons of information on how to keep healthy.

We received a $6k grant from Project Learning Tree and were recognized as a "Green School". The money is going towards our windspire that is now on  top of our school and will help to conserve energy.
